As I was getting ready for school, anxious about the trip that was planned, I checked my
Email. School is closed it’s too dangerous on the roads around the building. Snow Day! Woohoo, this was quickly followed by two emails from the principal and EYFS lead, “but do t forget to do some work”. Party poopers, although to be fair I had been planning to play catch up on things anyway.
We needed a treat, a getaway. I needed to see something new. So on a whim I booked us a night in a Penrith hotel and it was wonderful. Once we checked in we relaxed in our suite, had dinner in the hotel and just had a lovely
break. I have already warned GO that the colour scheme in the room was right up my street and I will try to replicate it at home.
We’ve been to the Lake District before, I’ve never really got it. They nice but I couldn’t understand everyone’s obsession. Until we visited Ulswater. Wow! It was amazing, it reminded me of Canada. The views were majestic and awe inspiring.
We said we wouldn’t do Valentine’s. Something inside knew this wasn’t true, so I picked up a card from Lidl, and popped into the Co-Op on the way home for beer, chocolates and flowers for GO. As I walked in there was a big card and a Yorkshire Soap Company box on the table.
I knew it!
I scribbled a message in the card which summed up how much GO means to me and was exactly what I wanted to say to him.
As they celebrate 47years of marriage it’s easy to forget how much they’ve been through. Yes they drive each other potty but you know they adore each other, they the yin to one a others yan. Happy anniversary to Mamilein and Papichen, love you to the moon and back.
We made good time and arrived at the hotel forty minutes early. The room wasn’t ready. It’s alright I said, I had spotted something on the sign. We were less than 30miles from Scotland! Let’s go, in less than half an hour later we were in Gretna Green.
I managed to convince GO to go for a walk with me along the Rochdale canal with me. It’s not a long walk or particularly challenging but it’s nice and it runs trough Tod so we can be home for tea in no time.
